There is a reason why photographs change when the shutter stays open longer. More light enters. Details appear that were invisible before. Movement softens. Edges dissolve. What first seemed ordinary begins to reveal its essence.
I sometimes wonder if people work the same way. We live fast. We look quickly. We move past one another before enough light has entered.
But attention changes perception. When we slow down — truly slow down — it is as if the shutter opens. More light moves through us. And suddenly we do not only see someone's face, story or role anymore. We begin to sense their nature. Their sadness. Their softness. Their becoming.
Maybe this is why presence heals. Not because it fixes anything, but because it allows light to reach places that remained unseen for too long.
In the light, nobody stays invisible.
And perhaps love itself is nothing more than this:
holding the shutter open long enough for another human being to fully appear.
